Suspicious envelope put into ATM at downtown Halifax Credit Union

HALIFAX - Police and fire crews were called to a downtown Halifax building Wednesday morning after a suspicious package was discovered at a credit union branch.

Halifax Regional Police Const. Brian Palmeter says a call from Credit Union at 5760 Spring Garden Rd came in at 9:03 a.m., reporting staff had received a suspicious envelope through the automated teller.

Palmeter says the envelope contained a sealed "baggie" filled with powder.

Authorities have closed off the area between Dresden Rd. and South St. to vehicular traffic, but the building has not been evacuated

Palmeter says there has been no injuries or illness related to the incident.

Police and fire crews cleared the scene at about 11:30 a.m.
