How did a confirmed west coast woman find her way to the other side of the country? “I took the scenic route,” she replies. That philosophy very much applies to the way this Global Maritimes anchor/reporter approaches her work and her life, taking in as much along the way as possible.

Rebecca Lau was garnering awards and scholarships even before graduating with High Honours from Carleton University. These include the Rogers Television Journalism Award for the student with most promise as a television journalist, and the CTV Scholarship in Broadcast Journalism for an outstanding student specializing in broadcast journalism.

Following graduation from Carleton in 2006 with a double major in law and a minor in history, Rebecca, was soon covering news in 6 cities and four provinces over the course of a few months.

From her first internships with Canwest News Service and CTV BC, Rebecca discovered that the only way to truly inform readers and viewers was to engage them in the story. She applied this critical wisdom across the country in various media, first in radio at CBC Sudbury, then television at CBC Windsor and Global Maritimes in Fredericton.

And though she now pulls double duty as week-end anchor and reporter at Global Maritimes in Halifax, she still finds time to take advantage of everything the region has to offer.

Travelling, especially spontaneous road trips, are special to Rebecca.

Moreover, this hardcore “foodie” never stops in her search for a great meal, ranging from traditional favourites to exotic cuisine. “I love to eat”, Rebecca laughs, “but I can’t cook to save my life”.
