TORONTO - Canada's furry forecasters are calling for an early spring. Ontario's Wiarton Willie and Nova Scotia's prognosticating rodent Shubenacadie Sam didn't see their shadows when they emerged on Thursday morning.

In the U.S., however, Punxsutawney Phil of Pennsylvania is calling for six more weeks of winter.

Overall, a majority of groundhogs have predicted an early spring this year. The forecasts come in the midst of an unusually mild winter that's taken even experienced human forecasters by surprise.

Global News takes a look at what other well-known rodents predicted across North America.
